PRIDE PULLS PAST WILDCATS 9-1

WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College women's soccer team defeated Wheelock College Saturday afternoon at the Regis College Athletic Complex by the score of 9-1. The Pride improves to 5-2 overall on the season and 2-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference. The visiting Wildcats move 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in the NECC.

The Pride opened the game with a barrage of shots in the first 20 minutes of play, but could not slip anything past Wildcats goalkeeper Alexandra Chiesa (Medford, Mass.). The Pride was able to grab the lead in the 17th minute of the first period when freshman Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.) put a well placed ball past the grasp of Chiesa to make the score 1-0. The Pride would add a second point two minutes later, when Abreu finished a pass from Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) to put the Pride up 2-0. The Pride would notch a third goal when Vivar would punch in a direct corner kick over the Wildcats defense to make the score 3-0. The Wildcats would make an attack in the final minutes of the first period but missed on a wide shot from Hilary Johansen (Walpole, Mass.) to head into the half down 3-0.

The Pride opened up the second half with a tally two minutes into the game when Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass. converted on a throw in from Bethany Frye (Adam, Mass.) to make the score 4-0 in favor of the Pride. Regis would cap its fifth goal of the game when freshmen Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) cut backdoor and finished a pass from Stephanie Mitrano (Haverhill, Mass.).  Mitrano and Jackie Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) would each tally goals for the Pride in the second half, both of which were career first. Michelle Mitropoulos (Arlington, Mass.) and Melissa Choz (Leicester, Mass.) would notch single goals to finish the Pride's scoring streak.

The Wildcats would get on the board at the 80th minute when Emma Petner (Hilo, H.I) connected on a through ball from Adriana Perry (Holebrook, Mass.) to tally the Wildcats first goal of the game. Chiesa finished the game for the Wildcats with a total of 12 saves.

The Crimson and Gold return to action Wednesday when they host Mills College at 6:00 p.m.The Wildcats return to action Tuesday when they host the Buccaneers from Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 7:00 p.m.
