SIROIS SCORES TWO IN OPENING NECC WIN OVER MOUNTAINEERS

BENNINGTON, Vt.- The Regis College women's soccer team defeated Southern Vermont College Saturday afternoon by the score of 4-0. The Pride improves to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in NECC play. The Mountaineers move to 1-4 overall in the season and drop to 0-1 in NECC play.

The Pride found the back of the net early in first period when Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) collected a loose ball and beat Mountaineer goal keeper Catrina Cecchini (Montville, Conn.) near post 52 seconds in. Joseph did her part again in the 19th minute as she played a diagonal ball that Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.) finished for a 2-0 Regis lead. Regis would score one more time before the end of the first half when Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.) juked her defender and cranked a shot bottom left to make the score 3-0.

In the second half the Mountaineers made adjustments to hold the Pride offense to only one goal. The adjustments fell through when Sirois sunk a hard shot past Cecchini to tally the final score of the game. This goal secured the Pride's lead at 4-0 and allowed Regis to take home its first ever NECC victory.
