PRIDE PUMMELS AMCATS IN 6-0 WIN

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's soccer team defeated Anna Maria College by the score of 6-0 Thursday night at the Regis College Athletic Complex. The Pride moves to 2-0 on the season, while the visiting AMCATS drop to 0-3.

The Pride opened the game up with a goal in the first thirty seconds when Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) was able to thread a pass through the Amcats defense and find Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) on the crease for a shot. Joseph hooked the ball top corner to put the Pride up 1-0. Joseph continued to pace the Pride's offense in the first period converting on a broken play in front of the AMCATS net. This tally put the Pride up 2-0 and gave Joseph her second goal of the game.

The Pride continued to pelt the Amcats with shots in the first period. The AMCATS goaltender Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield) stood strong, tallying a total of seven saves in the first half. Joseph notched her third goal of the game at the 25:42 mark when she headed a corner kick from Vivar to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Pride.

The second half opened with a goal by Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.) who tapped in a well played ball on the ground from Joseph, this point extended the Pride's lead to four.  The AMCATS defense was led by Hevy who stoned two shots by Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.) and stifled the persistent Pride offense. The Pride answered back with a third shot from Abreu, who rifled the ball to the back of the net to make the score 5-0. The Pride put one more mark on the scoreboard with a sixth and final goal from Joseph late in the second period. Hevy finished the day for the AMCATS grabbing 11 saves on the game. The final score at the end of 90 minutes was 6-0 in favor of the Pride.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Sunday afternoon as the Pride host the Hornets from Lyndon State at 12:00 p.m. The AMCATS next game is Saturday afternoon as they travel to Providence Rhode Island to take on the Wildcats from Johnson and Wales University.
