JOSEPH NETS TWO GOALS IN PRIDE VICTORY

WESTON, Mass. – Playing in her first collegiate game, freshman Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) made quite an impact as the forward netted a pair of goals in Regis College's 2-0 win over visiting Thomas College on Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action. The Pride pick up their first win of the season and move to 1-0 while the Terriers drop to 0-2 on the young season.

Both teams played to a 0-0 draw through the first 43 minutes of action until Joseph helped the Pride finally break through in the 43rd minute. Joseph took a shot on Thomas' Kate Thibodeau (Woolwich, Maine) that the keeper turned away but could not corral, allowing Joseph to grab her own rebound and loft one to the upper left corner that found the back of the net and gave Regis the early 1-0 advantage. Several minutes later, the Pride would have their second good scoring chance of the morning when the Terriers were called for a handball in the box, setting up a Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.) penalty kick. Thibodeau was up to the task however as she made the sprawling save to preserve the Terriers' 1-0 deficit.

Thibodeau made five stops in the opening frame while facing 12 shots from the Pride. The Terriers took three shots in the period but none of them found their mark. Regis also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Pride wasted no time in the second half trying to find an insurance goal as they got off five shots in the opening seven minutes of the period including two shots apiece from Kara Donovan (Woburn, Mass.) and Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.). At the 28 minute mark, Adena Joseph checked into the game and nearly 10 minutes later, the rookie netted her second goal of the game as she made a dribble move to her right and blasted the ball past the keeper and potted it into the back of the net to pad the Pride's lead at 2-0.

Thomas' best opportunity of the game came in the 85th minute when Elizabeth McPhillips (Billerica, Mass.) took a shot that was destined for the top corner of the net but Regis keeper Michaela Yebba (Wakefield, Mass.) just got a hand on it, deflecting it wide of its mark and helping preserve the 2-0 shutout.

For the game, Regis registered 21 shots to Thomas' eight. The Pride also held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Michaela Yebba picked up her first win of the season while making three saves in the shutout while Katie Thibodeau drops to 0-2 on the year despite making six saves in the setback.

The Pride return to action on Thursday night when Regis hosts Anna Maria in another non-conference matchup at 6:00 p.m. Thomas continues the search for its first win of the season when the Terriers return home to host St. Joseph's on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
