WOMEN'S SOCCER ANNOUNCES 2010 TEAM AWARDS

Weston, Mass.---The Regis College women’s soccer team capped off its fall season this past week. Four members were selected for the 2010 women’s soccer team awards.  The following awards were presented for the 2010 season, the coaches award, offensive player of the year, most improved player, and the most valuable player. These awards were presented to the players by Pride head coach Liz Conant.

 The 2010 Coach’s Award for women’s soccer was awarded to Kelly Cadigan (Ware, Mass. /Granby). Cadigan is a junior, and just completed her third season playing for the Pride.  Cadigan was a tri-captain for 2010 season and was again voted a tri-captain for the 2011 season. Cadigan is a tough middle defender who makes her presence known on the field. She does not let attackers turn, and is aggressive on 50-50 balls in the air.

 The 2010 Offensive Player of the Year for the women’s soccer team is Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass. /Oliver Ames).  Sirois is a sophomore, but this is her first season playing for the Pride. Sirois tallied a team high of seven goals on the season and had one assist. Sirois is the first women’s soccer player to score seven goals in a season since Megan Roan compiled the same feat in (2007).These seven goals put Sirois 5th in the Regis College women’s soccer record books for goals scored in a season.

 The 2010 Most Improved Player for the women’s soccer team is Tess McLean (West Roxbury, Mass. /Mount Alvernia). McLean is a freshman who started all 19 games for the Pride this season. She played both midfielder and left side back for the Pride. McLean tallied five points this year, scoring two goals and chipping in one assist for the 2010 season.

 The 2010 Most Valuable Player for women’s soccer is Kara Donovan (Woburn, Mass. /Arlington Catholic). Donovan, a junior transfer to Regis played sweeper for the Pride this season.  Donovan did not miss a single game or practice all season. She took the most goal kicks, corner kicks, and free kicks on the team.
