WOMEN'S SOCCER FINISHES SEASON AT ROGER WILLIAMS

BRISTOL R.I- The Roger Williams University Women’s Soccer team hosted Regis College in their season finale Wednesday, coming away with a 6-0 win on a cold, wet day in Bristol.

The win capped off a perfect season in conference play for Roger Williams, improving their record to 13-0-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference and 14-4-0 overall, while Regis dropped to 3-15-1 overall and 0-12-1 in the TCCC.

Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) started the scoring for the Hawks just 54 seconds into the game when she took a loose ball in the box off of a save and put it in the back of the net. Fusaro struck again at the six minute, taking a through ball from Devon Leighton (Scarborough, Maine.) putting it past the Regis keeper. Just one minute later, Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) beat her defender and crossed the ball into the box. Her cross found Fusaro, who was able to once again slot it past the keeper for her 3rd goal of the match.

Later in the 1st half, Pendleton snuck through the Regis defense and shot it past Pride goalie Michaela Yabba (Wakefield, Mass.) for her 2nd goal of the match. Leighton followed shortly after with a hard shot from the left side of the box. This gave the Hawks a 5-0 first half advantage.

Roger William’s scoring continued into the 2nd half when Pendleton hit a 25-yarder over the head of substitute goalie Samantha Correia (Berlin, Mass.) for her 2nd goal of the game at just the 35 second mark.

The Hawks had 45 shots on the day while Regis had four.

Three different goalies saw action for the Hawks while two minded the net for the Pride. Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y.) Kristen Darling (Weymouth, Mass.), and Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) combined for three saves. For Regis, Yabba and Correia shared goalkeeping duties teaming up for 15 saves, with five and ten respectively.

The Hawks’ next match will be on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they will compete in the TCCC Quarterfinals against either Wentworth Institute of Technology or Colby-Sawyer College.
