SIROIS SCORES TWO GOALS FOR REGIS

WESTON, Mass.—Jessica Graus (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) would tie the game 2-2 in the 86th minute Thursday. Her next score would be the game-winning goal for Newbury College (3-5-1), and the heartbreaking goal for the Regis College (3-9-1) women’s soccer program.

Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) opened the game with the Pride’s first score at 3:55. Not until 2:00 minutes remained in the first period would Newbury’s Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim) tie the game. Statistically the two teams were even across the board.

Individually, Sirois for Regis College and Tomaselli of Newbury, each had team-highs in shots, and shots on goal. Sirois registered four shots, and three shots on goal. Tomaselli had four and two shots on goal.

Sirois again made her mark for the Pride, scoring with 42:00 minutes remaining in the game. Unfortunately for Regis College that was too much time to give the Nighthawk offense. A foul by a Regis player setup Graus for the tying goal just outside of the 18. The high shot was out of the reach of Regis’ Michella Yebba (Wakefield, Mass./Lynnfield). It was Yebba’s only goal allowed in her 40:00 minutes.

With the game tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, head coach Liz Conant went back to her starting keeper for Regis College. Bethany Frye (Adams, Mass./Hoosac Valley) finished the first period having given up just one goal. She finished with two goals allowed, including Graus’ game-winner, and four total saves.

Newbury’s Kimberly Bibby (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) had four saves, allowing two goals in the game.

Newbury had nine shots, with seven being on goal. Tomaselli, Krista Toney (Broken Arrow, Okla./Union), and Graus each registered at least two shots on goal. Samantha Correia (Berlin, Mass./Hudson) had two shots on goal for Regis.

Regis College will hope to capture a conference win Saturday versus Endicott College. Newbury will host Becker College (Oct. 9).
