CADIGAN SCORES TO PUT PRIDE PAST EAGLES 2-0

Weston, Mass---The Regis College women’s soccer team defeated Daniel Webster College Monday (Sept. 27) by the score of 2-0. The Pride move to 3-8 on the season, while the visiting Eagles move to 1-4-2 in the New England Collegiate Conference.

Leading the Pride on defense in the first half was goalkeeper Bethany Frye (Adams, Mass. /Hoosac Valley) who was able to clear the ball well and find the Pride’s strikers down field. The Eagles goalkeeper Amy Waller (Berlin, Mass. /Tahanto) was able to prevent the Pride from scoring by registering three saves in the first half. The game continued with both teams attempting shots on goal, but neither team was able to capitalize. The score was 0-0 going into halftime.

The second period started with each team jockeying for ball control in their respective ends. The Pride broke the scoring drought in the second half when Kelly Cadigan (Ware, Mass. /Granby) received a pass from Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass. /Oliver Ames) and found the back of the net. The Pride continued to test the Eagles defense putting multiple shots on goal. Sophomore Michelle Sirois was able to penetrate the Eagles defense and get a shot off. The shot went bottom right and escaped the reach of the Eagles Waller, putting the Pride up by the score of 2-0.  Both teams continued to battle on the defensive end, but the Pride was able to settle the ball and wear the clock out.

The Pride is set to play fellow Commonwealth Coast Conference member Western New England College Wednesday (Sept. 29) at 4:30 pm.  The Eagles next match up is against fellow NECC member Southern Vermont College Saturday (Oct. 2) at 4:00 pm.
