COLONELS HANSBURY CHARGE PAST PRIDE 5-0

Weston, Mass.-Junior Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsord, Mass.) took little pity on her opponents Wednesday night, scoring two goals within 25 minutes of the initial whistle. Hansbury would lead Curry College (9-4, 6-3 TCCC) over The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Regis College (2-13, 1-8 TCCC) 5-0 in women's soccer.

With little hesitation, Hansbury separated herself from the Regis College defense to take on keeper Jackie Sullivan (Naples, FL) one-on-one. Striking the ball hard with her left foot, Sullivan would dive to keep Hansbury first, of eight shot attempts from scoring. Credit Sullivan with 12 saves on the night, but the Colonels refused to relent its attack on the Pride goalie.

Hansbury would tally her first goal, unassisted, at 22:51 after having passed her Regis defender to again be left alone to face Sullivan. Of Hansbury eight shots, seven would be on goal.

Contributing to the Colonels offensive attack would be senior Patricia Horton (Cutchogue, NY) tallying five shots of her own. Wanting to keep Curry College ahead of Regis, Kate Lusso (Coventry, Conn.) would score her first goal of the season at 27:00.

Opening up the lead even more would be Samantha Velezis (Waterbury, Conn.) in the 64th minute with her first goal. Shortly after, the Pride's Sasha Desrosiers (Boston, Mass.) would find the back of the net, from an assist from Meghan Roan (Whitman, Mass.).

Continuing to battle, Regis would hold the Curry College offense for six minutes until the Colonels Laura Lydon (Riverside, RI) found herself scoring the Colonels fifth goal on the night.

Regis College takes the field Oct. 18 at noon during its homecoming weekend to face Western New England College. Curry College faces TCCC opponent Gordon College Oct. 18 as well.
