SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore midfielder Krista Gangloff (Newington, CT) netted two goals as the Western New England College women's soccer team blanked Regis 6-0 on Tuesday (Oct. 19) at Suprenant Field.
The match was sponsored as "Kickin' Pink" to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.
Junior midfielder Shannon Pescatello (Wethersfield, CT) ignited the Golden Bear offense two minutes into the contest with her first goal of the season. Junior forward Heather Mortell (Webster, MA) had the assist.
Gangloff scored her first goal in the 11th minute off a feed from freshman forward Jena Arnister (Water Mill, NY).
Arnister put in her first goal of the season in the 13th minute to give WNEC a 3-0 advantage.
Gangloff, Mortell, and sophomore midfielder Andrea Almeida (Newington, CT) wrapped up the scoring in the first half scoring in the 16th, 20th, and 22nd minutes respectively.
Senior defender Kristen Culver (Westhampton, MA) and sophomore midfielder Jacqueline Dawson (Maynard, MA) each had assists.
Senior goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) and junior Marti Blum (Huntington Valley, PA) combined for the shutout with three saves.
Freshman Bethany Frye (Adams, MA) had 10 stops for the Pride.
WNEC out shot Regis 28-5.
Western New England College improves its record to 7-7-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the conference while Regis drops to 2-13-1 and remain winless in conference action at 0-11.
