RIVALRY BREWS IN PRIDE'S 2-1 LOSE TO AMCATS

Weston, Mass.-A well fought battle for 90 minutes ended with conference opponent Anna Maria College (2-13, 1-9 TCCC) defeating Regis College (2-12-1, 0-10 TCCC) during Regis' homecoming festivities Saturday.

Ashley Hibbard (Marlborough, Mass.) scored first for Regis on an unassisted goal. Hibbard would gain control of a cross from a teammate, dribble into the box, and strike her shot past Tabitha Ruggeri.

Hibbard's goal coming in the 51st minute of the game was a true statement to how both teams battled for possession.

Regis maintained the 1-0 score for 20 minutes until Maggie Sielawa scored from a header; Ashlene Patton assisted on the score.

The two teams were tied for less than 1:15 before Amanda Hevy scored off a corner kick from Moira Twigg in the 71st minute for Anna Maria.

Statistically Regis out played the AMCats, but Regis' 11 total shots, seven on goal, were not enough to stave off Anna Maria. The AMCats managed just four shots, three being on goal.

Credit Ruggeri for making six goal saves, compared to the Pride's Bethany Frye (Adams, Mass.) making just one for their respective teams.

Regis will finish out its 2009 season on the road with its next game at Western New England Oct. 20. The AMCats head to Salve Regina before completing its last two matches at home.
