PRIDE CLAW FIRST VICTORY OF SEASON IN 3-2 DEFEAT OF WILDCATS

Weston, Mass.-The Regis College women's soccer team defeated the Wheelock College Wildcats 3-2.  As this win would be the Pride's first win on the new turf and of the season.

Senior Meghan Roan (Whitman, Mass.) would go on and score all 3 goals in the Pride's victory.  Two of which came in the first period, in the 18th minute Roan would score the first goal of the game, which was unassisted and would put up the Pride 1-0 in the first period.

As the Wildcats were showing their strong defenses, the Pride heavy attack kept them on edge.  As Roan would go on to score another goal in the 39th minute on a handle ball penalty kick.  This would then put up Regis 2-0, and the Pride would outshoot the Wildcats 13-4 going into the half.

Although the Pride continued the pressure in the second period, the Wildcats wouldn't waste any time putting a goal up on the board.  As sophomore forward Haley Butler (Yarmouthsport, Mass.) would score off of an indirect assist from senior forward Lindsey Lacourse (Scarborough, Maine) in the 64th minute of the second period.

Shortly after that in the 71st minute Wheelock's senior midfielder Nicki Wilson (Brookline, Mass.) would score a goal on a shot which would ricochet off of the back of Pride defender Senior Marie Kong (Boston, Mass.) to tie the game up at two goals apiece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Chiesa (Medford, Mass.) would display a tremendous game in front of the net, containing 11 saves.  Until late game heroics by Roan who would fire a shot off the top post, which would then bounce back for a second opportunity for Roan to sail one into the top right corner for the game-winning goal.

This win would put Regis at 1-5-1 (0-2 TCCC) and would put Wheelock at 0-5.  Being the first win of the season, they can only expect the same result the rest of the way, and hopefully carry themselves through conference play.  The Wildcats will host Maine-Farmington on Saturday September 26, 2009 at 1:00 pm.  The Pride women's soccer team will host conference foe Roger Williams on Saturday September 26, 2009 at 12:00 pm.
