PRIDE HOLD NEWBURY TO 3-3 TIE

The Newbury College women's soccer team erased a two goal deficit against Regis College as the match ended in a 3-3 stalemate after two overtime periods.  Sophomore Jessica Graus (Rochester, NY/Greece Aradia) led the Nighthawks with two of the team's three goals.

Towards the tail end of the half, the Pride broke up the 0-0 match.  Senior Meghan Roan (Whitman, MA/Whitman-Hanson) at the nearside, right corner found sophomore Julia Austin (Norwood, MA/Norwood) up front for the first score of the game. Two minutes later, Roan would add to the Pride lead, finding the back of the net from the far-side of the field.

Down two goals to none, junior Ashley Greene-Allen (Brockton, MA/Brockton) put the Nighthawks on the board soon after Roan's goal.  Freshman Holly Ballard (Douglas, MA/David Prouty) assisted on the goal, finding Greene-Allen up in front of the net to bring Newbury within one going into halftime.

Midway through the second period, Graus tied up the match off a direct free kick.  Lightning would strike twice as the sophomore from New York would give the Nighthawks the 3-2 lead with 4:30 left in the match. But the Pride would not be denied as sophomore Kelly Cadigan (Ware, MA/Granby) knotted up the score at three a piece with a direct free kick of her own.

With the tie, the Nighthawks record stands at 1-0-2 while the Pride are now 0-2-1 on the season. The Newbury women will return to action on Saturday September 19th when they host WPI at 12:00pm.
