Nashua - Sophomore Kacie Lang (Raymond, N.H.) netted all three
goals including two in the first half, pacing the Daniel Webster
College women's soccer team past Regis College, 3-0 in the season
opener for both clubs before 125 sun-splashed patrons Sunday
afternoon at Eagle Field.
Rachel Schelhorn (Lebanon, Conn.) and Hilary Girard (Seymour,
Conn.) added single assists as the Eagles (1-0) won their season
opener for the first time since 2006.
The Eagles controlled the tempo through the bulk of the contest,
finishing with a 14-5 shots advantage. Eagle Midfielder TC DiSantis
(Hinsdale, Mass.) and junior back Kim Lemire (Merrimack, N.H.)
helped provide steady defense as sophomore keeper Amy Waller
(Berlin, Mass.) was limited to just two saves on long distance
shots.
Lang poked home Schelhorn feed 15:35 into the contest and followed
with the rebound of a DiSantis corner kick in the 36th to give the
Eagles a 2-0 advantage at the break.
In the 63rd, Girard sent a low 20-yarder toward the Regis goal and
Lang popped home a loose ricochet to close out the scoring.
Freshman Bethany Frye (Adams, Mass.) finished with 10 saves for
the Price (0-1).
The Eagles return to action Wednesday visiting Suffolk at 6:00
p.m. Regis visits Endicott for its Commonwealth Coast Conference
opener next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
