Pride Face Setback Against Corsairs

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College Women's Lacrosse hosted the University of Massachusetts- Dartmouth Corsairs at Higgins Field tonight, where the Corsairs' offense powered them to a 17-2 victory over the Pride. The loss dropped the Pride to 1-2 on the season, while the Corsairs improved to 3-1.

For the Pride, Audrey Mason (West Springfield, Mass.) and Izzy Cochrane (Hookset, N.H.) each scored a goal, and Teal Galligan contributed an assist. Melinda Carbone (Bedford, Mass.) led the team with four ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Six different Corsairs found the back of the net, with Jenny Lipanovich leading the way with seven goals and one assist followed by Kyra Lyons who added four goals and an assist in the victory.

How it Happened:

  • Just three minutes into the game, Mason put the Pride on the board first, but the Corsairs responded with five unanswered goals to close out the first frame, taking a 5-1 lead.
  • Lipanovich netted three goals in the second quarter, helping the Corsairs extend their lead to a commanding 10-1 at halftime.
  • The visitors pushed their advantage to 14 goals before Cochrane scored off a pass from Galligan to give the Pride their second goal of the game less than two minutes into the fourth. The duo of Lipanovich and Lyons would each add a goal before time expired to seal the 17-2 victory for the Corsairs.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Cochrane scored her first goal of the season in tonight's game, while Galligan recorded her first assist in the crimson and gold.
  • Mason has now scored at least one goal in each of the Pride's three games this season.

The Pride will face their first conference opponent this Saturday, March 8th, when they travel to Chicopee, Massachusetts, to take on Elms College at 1 p.m.
