Ross Lifts Women’s Lacrosse To OT Win Over Saint Joseph’s

WESTON, Mass.Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) scored a game-high four goals and Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) added three more, her last the gamewinner in a 7-6 overtime win by the Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team over Saint Joseph's (Me.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Tuesday night at Regis Stadium.

The win moves the Pride (8-3, 4-2 GNAC) into a tie for second place with both Lasell and St. Joe's (8-3, 4-2 GNAC). Ross's gamewinner was made possible by Anselmo's free position equalizer with under 10 seconds to play in regulation which came only seconds after Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine) scored what looked to be the gamewinner for the Monks.

A win looked to be in doubt early as the Monks went up 4-0 halfway through the first period. Caiazzo scored on a free position goal for the game's first goal then put her team up four with 14:44 remaining in the first half.

The Pride rallied behind the shooting of Anselmo and Ross and the fine play in net from Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.). Malcolm, who posted 11 saves on the evening, would not allow another goal until 2:52 remaining in the game. Meanwhile, Anselmo scored twice with under 10 minutes until halftime and Ross added two more in the second half, the second with 10:06 to play to put Regis up 5-4.

The Monks finally found the back of the net again with Kayla Kelly's (York, Maine) goal inside of three minutes to play. Caiazzo regained the lead for St. Joseph's with 34 seconds to play but Anselmo's goal with seven seconds remaining sent the game into overtime, the second in as many years between the two teams.

Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) posted five saves for the Monks on 12 Regis shots with Kelly scooping up a game-high seven groundballs.

Regis retakes the field on Thursday, Apr. 12, visiting former NECC foe Wheelock at 7:00 p.m. Next up for St. Joseph's is a host date against Mount Ida Saturday, Apr. 14 at 12:00 p.m.
