Anselmo Nets 100th Goal as Women's Lacrosse Downs Emmanuel

WESTON, Mass. - Sophomore Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) scored her 100th career goal on Saturday afternoon, leading the Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team to a 12-2 victory over Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Regis Stadium.

With the win, the Pride improves to 7-3 on the season, 3-2 in the GNAC. Emmanuel falls to 2-6 and 2-4 in the GNAC.

Defense was the story of the first half for both teams, with just four goals scored in the half. Regis freshman Cheyanne Jones (Randolph Center, Vt.) opened the scoring on a fast break just under five minutes in, and Anselmo netted her first goal of the afternoon seven minutes later to put the Pride on top 2-0.

Emmanuel got on the board at the 11:54 mark of the first half, as senior Lindsay Curry (Pittsfield, Mass.) put home her fourth goal of the season to draw the Saints back to 2-1, but Anselmo would score again with 5:57 left in the half to give the hosts a 3-1 lead headed to halftime.

Five Pride goals in a span of 6:10 in the opening stages of the second half worked to put the game firmly in the hands of the Pride. With 10:22 left on the clock, Anselmo was awarded a free position shot, and made no mistake, firing home her sixth goal of the day and 100th of her career to put the Pride up 11-1 and cap a 9-0 Pride run. Avery Yang (Lincoln, R.I.) ended the Pride run on her fourth goal of the season with exactly five minutes remaining, but the deficit would prove far too much for the visitors to overcome.

Anselmo and junior Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.) were the only two players to net multiple goals on the afternoon, as Kosak netted a pair on the day. Sophomore Bridget Dowling (Hanover, Mass.) added a goal and an assist in the victory.

Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) got the win in goal for the Pride, allowing one goal and making five saves. Making her first start of the season in goal, Emmanuel senior Stephanie Warn (Hanson, Mass.) made an impressive 13 saves in net despite the loss.

The Pride will be back in action on Tuesday evening, hosting Saint Joseph's (Me.) at 7:00 p.m. from Regis Stadium. The Saints will look to return to the win column the same evening, taking on Rivier on the road.
