Women's Lacrosse Comes From Behind to Stay Unbeaten

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team trailed Salem State 4-0 early in the first half on Saturday afternoon before scoring eight unanswered to lift them to an 10-6 victory over the Vikings in non-conference action at Regis Stadium.

With the win, the Pride stays perfect on the season improving to 4-0, while the Vikings drop to 0-3.

The Vikings jumped out to an early edge and appeared to be in control of the game after scoring four goals in a span of 4:13 and holding a 4-0 lead just 7:29 into the game, but the Pride refused to be counted out. Just 51 seconds after the Vikings stretched their lead to four, reigning New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Pride. Regis would go on to score four more goals to close out the first half and hit the break ahead 5-4. Anselmo had a first half hat trick, while classmate Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.) each added a goal. 

The Pride continued to thrive on offense after the break, as Anselmo capped the team's 8-0 run with her fifth of the day with 14:29 remaining in the half. Viking junior Courtney Smith (Peabody, Mass.) ended her team's skid with her second goal of the game at the 17:19 mark of the half, but the Vikings couldn't get enough offense going to mount a comeback, leading the Pride to the victory.

Anselmo finished the day with with six goals, while junior Nicole Roche (Waltham, Mass.) and senior Arianna Woodley (Norwood, Mass.) added second half goals to lift the Pride to the win. Salem State senior Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) led the Viking offense on the afternoon by netting a hat trick in the loss.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) made five saves to pick up the win and improve her record to 3-0 on the season. Salem State's Karlie McLear (Paxton, Mass.) made 10 saves in the losing effort.

Next up for the Pride, they will travel to Boston to take on Emmanuel College on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Vikings return to action on Thursday evening with a road matchup against Wheelock at 7:00 p.m.
