Women's Lacrosse Opens Season in Win Column

NASHUA, N.H. - For the second consecutive year, the Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team opened its season with a victory over Rivier University, as the Pride defeated the Raiders 14-9 on Tuesday night at Raider Field.

With the win, the Pride moves to 1-0 on the young season, while the Raiders still seek its first win of the season, dropping to 0-2.

The teams played an even opening half, trading two goal surges and went into the break tied 4–4. The Pride used a 6-1 run in the opening twelve minutes of the 2nd half to pull ahead 10–5 on the Raiders, before closing out the game with the road win.

Rivier was led on the night by freshman Amanda Barton (Pelham, N.H.) who scored three goals on four shots on goal, and also added five ground balls. Junior Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) was also strong for the Raiders, scoring a pair of goals while adding three shots on goal and nine ground balls. In goal, Courtney Laperriere (Keene, N.H.) went the distance and had 11 saves on the evening.

Regis was paced by sophomore Taylor Assarian (Arlington, Mass.) and freshman Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.), who each had hat tricks and an assist on opening night. The visiting Pride was backstopped by six saves from rookie Olivia Maggio (West Windsor, N.J.) to pick up her first collegiate win in her first collegiate game.

Next up for the Raiders is a home game versus Framingham State at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2nd. Regis returns to action the same day when the Pride hosts New England College in its home opener at 4:00 p.m.
