WESTON, Mass. – Eleven different players recorded points as Regis College opened up New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play with a decisive 22-1 win over visiting Bay Path College in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Salamone (Milford, Mass.) scored five goals apiece and combined for 18 points to lead the Pride, who improve to 6-5 on the season and 1-0 NECC.

Politis and Salamone connected four times on the day, including the first goal of the game to get things started for Regis early. Salamone made a pass to Politis on the left wing, who then cut in front and took a quick shot to put the Pride up 1-0 just 1:29 into the game.

That goal would kick-start a 5-0 run by the Crimson and Gold, with a goal coming from junior midfielder Andrea Barbosa (Taunton, Mass.) and two goals apiece coming from Politis and Salamone. Bay Path answered back with a goal by Megan Tancredi (Newington, Conn.) at the 22:16 mark to cut the deficit to 5-1. Junior Jillian O'Melia (East Longmeadow, Mass.) hit Tancredi with a pass from behind the Pride goal, and Tancredi took a one-timer that found the back of the net.

Following the goal by the Wildcats, the Pride would respond by erupting for nine straight goals to close out the half with a 14-1 lead. That run began with a free position goal from sophomore midfielder Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) and was capped by the first goal of the season for midfielder Rachel Wong (Wakefield, Mass.). The Pride also received three goals and two assists each by Politis and Salamone, as well as a goal and an assist from junior Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.).

Coming out of the break the Pride continued to pour on the offense, while the defense also continued its air tight coverage, ultimately limiting the Wildcats to just two shots all half. Senior defender Kristen Amicangioli (Belmont, Mass.) led the way, forcing four caused turnovers and scooping up one ground ball.

Barbosa scored back-to-back goals to open up the second half, followed by back-to-back goals from sophomore Krysten Sheppard (Medford, Mass.) to extend the lead to 18-1 by the 20:09 mark. Just over two minutes later, Mary Roma (Portland, Maine) struck for the first time off a pass from Salamone.

Burns would add her second goal of the game with 15:59 remaining, while Kara Lapierre (Wayland, Mass.) netted her first goal of the season at the 11:12 mark. Midfielder Becka Sarson (York, Maine) closed out the scoring for the day, with an assist on the play coming from sophomore Shelby Looney (Leicester, Mass.).

Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Barclay (Auburn, Maine) led the Wildcats with 14 saves on the day, while Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) and Sierra Luce (Hartford, Vt.) combined for three saves on the day for the Pride.

Regis will be back in action on Tuesday, April 9 when they host Salem State for a non-conference game at 6:00 p.m. Bay Path, who moves to 1-1 on the season, 0-1 NECC, will next travel to conference opponent Becker on Saturday, April 13, with start time scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
