Regis Splits with Simmons in Doubleheader

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College softball split with Simmons University in Wednesday night's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader, dropping game one 4-0, and taking game two, 4-3.

GAME TWO: Regis 4, Simmons 3:

Regis struck first in game two when Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.) singled to shortstop to lead off for the Pride in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Rees advanced to second, Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) singled up the middle to bring in the first run for the Pride, to lead 1-0.

Simmons responded with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth scoring two runs. The Sharks scored on two errors by the Pride, to lead, 2-1.

The Pride answered with three runs after Maddy Bradish (Hudson, N.H.) started off with a bunt. Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) singled to left field moving Bradish to second. Both runners stole a base to put themselves in scoring positions. Rees then hit a homerun to bring in three runs and clinch a 4-2 lead, in the bottom of the fifth.

The Sharks scored in the top of the sixth to trail by one run just after a sacrifice fly brought in Emery Kreidel-Rreimer.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Simmons saw an opportunity to score but was shut down by the Pride. Just after a single to left center, Trinity Payne coined a double to advance the runner to third, who was then thrown out after attempting to score. Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.) met Marissa Allen (Coventry, R.I.) to earn the third out and victory, with a final score of 4-3.

Rees pitched all seven innings for the Pride while earning eight strikeouts.

 

GAME ONE: Simmons 4, Regis 0

After six scoreless innings with minimal hits, the Sharks were able to get on the board in the top of the seventh inning just after a triple from Emily Deleault. Emma Soule knocked in the first run for the Sharks just after hitting a double to left field. Extending the lead, Teagan Buckley hit a triple to bring in two runs, while Leah Berdeen had a sacrifice fly to bring in the final run of the game.

Regis (7-17, 3-7 GNAC) are set to travel to face Emmanuel College on Saturday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Simmons (9-18, 5-3 GNAC) are on the road to face Norwich University on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
