Softball Concludes 2023 Season on Senior Day

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College was defeated in both games of Friday afternoon's doubleheader against the University of Saint Joseph in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball action at Regis Softball Field.

GAME ONE: USJ 5, Regis 3

Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) got the Pride started with a lead-off single in the bottom of the third inning, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lexi Nichols (Granby, Conn.). A single by Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) put runners at first and third for Andria Braga (Rehoboth, Mass.), who hit an RBI single to left field. Diana Petrarca (Coventry, R.I.) hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to drive in another run and tie the score at 2-2.

USJ chipped away at the Pride, scoring runs off an RBI single by Brianna Catalani in the top of the first inning, a single by Alyssa Roberts and an error in the field in the third inning, and a sacrifice fly by Jenna Masiello in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead over Regis.

A walk by Braga in the bottom of the fifth and a line drive single by Petrarca put runners at first and second for Ciara Collins (Lynn, Mass.), who singled to right field to score a run and tie the game at 3-3.

Jenna Zup hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh to retake the lead for the Blue Jays, while Roberts drove in an insurance run with a single through the left side of the infield.

Petrarca pitched the complete game for the Pride, recording three strikeouts while allowing three earned runs. Paige Fekete had two strikeouts in the win for USJ, while Kaitlyn Ouellette closed out the game to earn the save.

GAME TWO: USJ 5, Regis 1

Burke got the ball rolling in the bottom of the sixth inning with a line drive triple over the right fielder's head, setting up Braga who hit a sacrifice fly to the left fielder to score a run for the Pride.

USJ took a one-run lead in the top of the first inning after a lead-off walk by Zup, followed by an RBI single by Roberts down the third base line.

The visitors picked up another run in the top of the third when back-to-back singles put runners at first and third for Catalani, who hit a groundball to shortstop, allowing a run to score.

The Blue Jays scored three more runs in the top of the fourth off an RBI single by Zup and another single by Masiello, which drove in a pair of runs.

Alyssa Ward (Webster, Mass.) pitched the complete game for the Pride, while Roberts earned the win for USJ, striking out nine batters.

Regis College (12-24, 3-9 GNAC) concludes the 2023 season with today's Senior Day matchup. USJ is scheduled to play at Lasell on Tuesday, May 2, in the first round of the GNAC Tournament.
