WINTHROP, Mass. – After helping Regis College qualify for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Tournament, first-year pitcher Kate McGrath (Boston, Mass.) was voted by the league coaches to the GNAC Softball All-Rookie Team, while sophomore infielder Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) was selected to represent the Pride on the GNAC Softball All-Sportsmanship Team, announced Tuesday, May 10.
McGrath appeared in 16 games, including 15 starts, earning six victories during the season with nine complete games. In 85 1/3 innings of work, she struck out 64 batters while walking just 19 hitters for a 3.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
She picked up her first career victory with a four-hit shutout over Houghton Feb. 28, striking out eight batters. After another eight-strikeout performance during a 2-1 complete game victory over Anna Maria April 1, she allowed just three hits while collecting 10 strikeouts during the team's 6-1 win over Lasell April 20. McGrath gave up just three hits in eight innings to lead the Pride to a 1-0 victory over Elms April 30.
Erickson played in 30 games for the Pride, including 25 starts, as she started the final 16 contests of the season in a row. She batted .278 with 22 hits, including three doubles, and 10 runs scored. Erickson notched five multiple-hit games and went 3-for-8 with two doubles, four runs scored, and one RBI during the team's doubleheader sweep of Dean April 14.
Regis College finished the 2022 season with 11 victories, including a 7-9 record within the GNAC to finish fourth in the GNAC South division and qualify for the conference tournament for the first time since joining the league. Among the Pride's victories was a 4-2 win at eventual GNAC champion Johnson and Wales April 24, with McGrath allowing just four hits and two unearned runs while Erickson picked up a hit during the game.
