Kate McGrath Repeats as GNAC Rookie of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second consecutive week, first-year pitcher Kate McGrath (Boston, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday night, May 2, by the league office.

McGrath pitched her second shutout of the season, allowing just three hits in eight innings Saturday as the Pride defeated Elms, 1-0. She faced the minimum 15 batters through the first five innings, and then she stranded a runner at third base in the sixth and eighth innings to keep the Blazers off the scoreboard. McGrath struck out five batters without allowing a walk.

With the win, McGrath evened her record at 6-6 and lowered her earned run average to 2.03, currently third in the GNAC. She has thrown a team-high 79 1/3 innings, striking out 61 batters while allowing just 18 walks for a 3.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Saturday's victory played a major role in Regis qualifying for the GNAC Softball Tournament for the first time since joining the league in 2017-18. The Pride will head to West Hartford, Conn., for a first round game against University of Saint Joseph Tuesday, May 3, beginning at 4 p.m.
