WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading the Regis College softball team to victories against Lasell and Johnson & Wales, first-year player Kate McGrath (Boston, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday, April 25 by the league office.
McGrath was the starting pitcher for the Pride in three games last week, allowing just two earned runs through 20 innings pitched for a 0.70 ERA including 17 strikeouts, with a career-high 10 strikeouts against Lasell Wednesday, Apr. 20. McGrath threw complete games in all three contests she appeared in last week, only allowing a total of nine hits throughout the week.
McGrath's bat also played a role in defeating Johnson & Wales this past Sunday when she hit a sacrifice fly to give Regis a 4-0 lead over the Wildcats. With the victories, McGrath improves to 5-6 on the year, leading the Pride with 56 strikeouts and a team-low ERA of 2.26 over 71 1/3 innings pitched.
McGrath earned her first GNAC weekly honor as well as the first weekly award for Regis softball during the 2022 season.
The Pride next play at Emmanuel College in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday, Apr. 28, starting at 5 p.m. before closing out the regular season by hosting Elms College Saturday, Apr. 30, beginning at 12 p.m.
