Pride Softball Continues Spring Break Trip Tuesday

CLERMONT, Fla. – Regis College was unable to put together a sustained offensive attack Tuesday, losing to Concordia College (Minn.) and Eastern University in non-conference collegiate softball action at Legends Way Ballfields.

Concordia-Moorhead 6, Regis 0

Concordia College took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kenzie Leither hit a one-out double, Ellie Tofteland was hit by a pitch, and Molly Wilde drove both of them in with a single.

In the bottom of the second inning, Kate Wensloff hit a one-out single, stole second base, and scored on a double by Emma Redlin. After Leither was hit by a pitch, Tofteland laced a double to drive in both Redlin and Leither and increase Concordia's lead to 5-0.

Regis was held to one baserunner through the first five innings, but the Pride tried to put a rally together in the top of the sixth when Andria Braga (Rehoboth, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and Erin Murphy (Bedford, N.H.) followed with a single, but Concordia pitcher Megan Gavin induced a groundout to end the inning.

Gavin allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 14 batters in the complete game victory. Alyssa Ward (Webster, Mass.) pitched the entire game for the Pride, striking out four batters in six innings of work.

Eastern 11, Regis 3

The Pride had an opportunity to take the early lead as Braga led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Murphy, and reached third base on a single by Diana Petrarca (Coventry, R.I.). However, Eastern pitcher Sami Britton notched consecutive strikeouts to end the Regis scoring threat.

Regis enjoyed another scoring chance in the second inning after singles by Sarah Fawcett (Londonderry, N.H.) and Alex Page (New Boston, N.H.), but Britton induced a foul out and a flyout to keep the game scoreless. The Eagles opened the scoring in the third inning thanks to a two-run triple by Kacie Noonan and an infield single by Susana Perez.

Murphy led off the bottom of the third inning with a double, and Kayla Morrill (Lynn, Mass.) drew a two-out walk to extend the inning before a single by Fawcett scored Murphy. Eastern broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fourth inning, led by a two-run single from Perez and a two-run double by Jania Long.

Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single, and Braga kept the inning going by drawing a two-out walk. Murphy drove in Erickson with a double, and Petrarca followed with a single that scored Braga. However, the Eagles scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning and prevented the Pride from scoring in the bottom of the inning, ending the game via the eight-run margin rule.

Britton was credited with the victory for the Eagles, while Kate McGrath (Boston, Mass.) took the loss for the Pride.

Regis College (1-4) will next play Thursday, March 3, facing Neumann at 2:45 p.m. and Chatham at 5 p.m.
