Pride Cross Country Competes at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Regis College cross country team participated in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday at the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course.

Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) led the way for the Pride, completing the eight-kilometer course with a time of 29:02.08, followed by Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) with a time of 29:58.61. Brian LaPorte (Bridgewater, Mass.) was next for Regis, posting a time of 35:00.34.

The next three Regis competitors came across the finish line close together, including Ben Myette (Hanson, Mass.) completing the race in 36:10.91, over a minute faster than the eight-kilometer time he posted just one week ago. Myette ended up just ahead of Kederson Pierre (Everett, Mass.) in 36:10.94 and Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) in 36:43.33.

For the third straight week, Aubrey Heise (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was the top Regis finisher on the women's side, completing the five-kilometer course in 21:26.29, over 36 seconds quicker than the 5K time she posted three weeks ago. Jonnie Charest (Methuen, Mass.) was next for the Pride with a time of 22:46.21, followed by Olivia Mmamelu (Waltham, Mass.) in 24:31.59, more than 27 seconds quicker than her previous best time at the 5K distance.

Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 25:16.38, and Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.) completed the course with a time of 25:56.06. The women landed in 42nd place in the team standings, while the men ended up in 41st place, with both varsity races won by Division I schools: Northeastern for the women and Boston University for the men.

Regis College returns to action for the Norwich Cadet Classic Friday, Oct. 4, starting at 3 p.m. This will give the Pride a preview of the course being used this year for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Cross Country Championship in early November.
