Novelle-Ruddy, Parker Selected to GNAC All-Sportsmanship Teams

WINTHROP, Mass. – As part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's announcement of its cross country awards, senior Gustavo Novelle-Ruddy (Boston, Mass.) and junior Libby Parker (Bow, N.H.) were selected to represent Regis College on the GNAC Men's and Women's Cross Country All-Sportsmanship Teams.

"Gustavo and Libby have been exemplary student-athletes for the Regis cross country program all season long," head coach Ben Colello said. "Their excellent attitude and effort at practice and competitions is something that I hope our younger athletes can use as a model for the rest of their careers. Both Gustavo and Libby are selfless, supportive, and competitive, and they make our program better!"

Novelle-Ruddy, captain of this year's men's cross country team, has been selected to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team for the third time in his career. He has competed in all six events for the Pride so far this season, finishing in 11th place at the Elms Blazer Classic Sept. 25 to help the team to a second place finish overall.

His best eight-kilometer time of the season came at the Bruce Kirsh Cup Oct. 2 with a mark of 30:11.4, just six seconds off his collegiate-best time posted at the 2019 Keene State Invitational. He finished in 24th place at the GNAC Championships Oct. 30 with a time of 32:05.

Competing at the collegiate level for the first time this season, Parker has shown steady improvement throughout the year, culminating with a season-best six-kilometer time of 28:52 two weeks ago at the GNAC Championships to finish in 28th place.

Parker's top five-kilometer time came at the Bruce Kirst Cup, as she completed the course in 23:02.7, over 40 seconds quicker than her previous best effort at that distance in the season-opening Wellesley Invitational. She has consistently scored for the Pride as the team's fourth finisher in all six races, helping the squad to a third place finish at the GNAC Championships.

The Regis College cross country team concludes its 2021 season Saturday, Nov. 13, at the NCAA Division III East Regional at Franklin Park in Boston. The men's eight-kilometer race is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., followed by the women's six-kilometer event at 12:30 p.m.
