Men’s Volleyball Finalizes Captains, Schedule for 2024 Season

2024 REGIS COLLEGE MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College men's volleyball program has finalized its captains and schedule for the upcoming 2024 competition season, which will begin right after the start of the new calendar year.

Senior Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.) and graduate student Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) have been named team captains for the 2024 season. Perez earned First Team All-GNAC honors in 2023 after leading the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and finishing 24th in NCAA Division III in kills per set with 3.52, setting a Regis single-season record in the process. Perez enters the 2024 season fourth in program history in career kills with 532, fifth in career service aces with 57, and 10th in career digs with 261.

After coming to Regis College as a graduate transfer from Colby-Sawyer College, Plagata appeared in 63 sets within 20 matches for the Pride in 2023, finishing with 98 kills, 16 service aces, 97 digs, and 16 total blocks. In a 3-0 sweep at Elms March 25, 2023, Plagata collected a season-high 13 defensive digs along with eight kills, plus he finished with 13 kills and three total blocks at Emmanuel April 4, 2023.

Perez and Plagata will lead an experienced squad into a 28-match schedule, starting with a contest at AIC Thursday, Jan. 11. The Pride open conference play at Elms Friday, Jan. 19, followed by the team's only home tri-match of the season Saturday, Jan. 27, against Dean and Eastern Nazarene.

The rematch with the Lions takes place at Eastern Nazarene Tuesday, Jan. 30, followed by home matches against first-year program Manhattanville Friday, Feb. 2, and perennial power Endicott Tuesday, Feb. 6. Regis will travel to Albany, N.Y., for a tri-match against host Sage and Houghton, another first-year program, Saturday, Feb. 10.

Regis resumes conference play against Emerson Tuesday, Feb. 13, and at Emmanuel Saturday, Feb. 17. On Friday, Feb. 23, the Pride host Fisher and AIC in a doubleheader, followed by league contests at Dean Tuesday, Feb. 27, and against Emmanuel Wednesday, Feb. 28.

The Pride start March with a tri-match at MIT Saturday, March 9, that also includes Buffalo State before a home contest against defending GNAC champion Wentworth Wednesday, March 13. Regis then travels to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., for matches against Wilkes Friday, March 15, and Stevenson and King's College Saturday, March 16.

Regis closes the regular season with seven straight league matches, hosting Lasell Tuesday, March 19, before road contests at Rivier Thursday, March 21, and at Emerson Saturday, March 23. The Pride host Elms Tuesday, March 26, before concluding the regular season at Lasell Thursday, April 4, and at Wentworth Saturday, April 6, also facing Rivier during the tri-match.

The top six teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the GNAC Men's Volleyball Tournament, with the third and fourth seeds hosting first round matches Tuesday, April 9. The top two seeds will host semifinal contests Thursday, April 11, with the championship match at the highest remaining seed Saturday, April 13.

Regis College posted a 12-17 overall record in 2023, including a 7-9 mark within the GNAC to finish sixth in the regular season standings and qualify for the GNAC Tournament for the second straight year.
