Rivier Defeats Men's Volleyball in GNAC Quarterfinal

NASHUA, N.H. - Regis College was defeated by Rivier University in three sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-12) in Tuesday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament quarterfinal match at Muldoon Gymnasium.

Rivier took a 7-2 lead to begin the first set before kills by Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.) and Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) cut the Rivier lead to three (7-4). The Raiders took a 14-6 lead, followed by the Pride scoring four of the next five points with multiple kills by Perez cutting the Rivier lead to five (15-10). From there, the home team outscored the Pride, 10-5, to take a 1-0 match lead.

The second set played out similarly to the first with a kill by Perez putting the Pride just a point behind Rivier (10-9) before the home team scored the next four, capped off with a service ace by Isaac Borges to take a 15-10 lead over Regis. From there, Rivier increased its lead to win the set and take a 2-0 match lead.

The Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third and final set before going up by eight (10-2) on a block by Ethan Soltis and Chris Lezon. A kill by Jack Normandin ended the set and completed the sweep for Rivier.

With the loss, Regis College (12-17) concludes this year's campaign, finishing with a 7-9 record in GNAC play. Rivier University (20-10) goes on to face Lasell in the GNAC Tournament semifinals on Thursday, April 13.
