Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Purchase On the Road

PURCHASE N.Y. - Regis College defeated Purchase College in three sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) Monday night in a non-conference men's collegiate volleyball matchup at Purchase Athletic Facilities.

Chris Huynh (Methuen, Mass.) finished with seven kills and five digs while Francesco Buanne (Caserta, Italy) had six kills with a .625 hitting percentage. Marcello Cappuccio (Scotch Plains, N.J.), Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Donovan Ross (Southbridge, Mass.) all finished with five digs while Alessandro DiPaola (Newington, Conn.) had 18 assists.

A kill by John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.) started a 4-0 scoring run for the Pride at the beginning of set one. After an error put the score at 4-1, Regis scored 10 straight points including three service aces by Plagata and kills by Nangle, Robert Burch (Coxsackie, N.Y.), and Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.). The Pride never allowed Purchase to score more than three points in a row in set one, winning the set with three straight points.

Set two saw Purchase score the first four points before a kill by Logan Sras (Lowell, Mass.) started a 9-1 scoring run for Regis which included a kill and a service ace by Nangle. The Pride continued to score, taking a 19-9 lead off of three straight errors by the Panthers before trading points until the end of the set.

Set three went back and forth until, with the score tied at 14 points apiece, the Pride went on another 9-1 scoring run, jumpstarted by a kill by Burch and capped off by a kill by Sam Segura-Suarez (Berwick, Pa.) to put Regis on top 23-15.

Regis College (6-8, 1-3 GNAC) plays next at Endicott on Tuesday, March 7, beginning at 6:00 p.m. before competing in a GNAC tri-match on the road against Rivier and Wentworth Saturday, March 18, at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
