Men’s Volleyball Loses at Top-Ranked Springfield

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to top-ranked Springfield College, 3-0 (25-7, 25-17, 25-16), Wednesday evening in a non-conference men's collegiate volleyball match at Blake Arena.

Josh Nolen (Falls Church, Va.) led Regis with five kills and a .455 hitting percentage, and Brendan Lam (Rockville, Md.) collected 11 assists.

The teams split the first 12 points of the match before Springfield, ranked first in this week's NVA/AVCA Men's Division III Coaches Poll, rattled off a 19-1 scoring run to close out the opening set. The last 12 points were scored on Jarrett Anderson's serve, featuring seven Anderson service aces as well as two kills by Noah Weislo.

Springfield (19-1) put together a 7-1 scoring run early in the second set to open a 10-4 advantage, but Regis battled back, closing to within three and trading points with the home team midway through the set. Springfield scored five of the final six points of the second set, led by two kills from Ryan Roller as well as a kill and a service ace from Brennen Brandow.

Consecutive service aces by Joel DeCamp helped Springfield open a 6-2 lead in the third set, but Regis would again stick close to the hosts. Springfield extended its advantage to 17-10 with three straight points, and then it closed out the set and the match with a 5-1 scoring run, starting with back-to-back kills by Weislo and capped by a kill from Giancarlo Carrion.

Weislo led Springfield with 10 kills on 14 attempts without an error for a .714 hitting percentage as the team combined to hit .618 (39-5-55) in the match. Matt Lilley accumulated 22 assists, and Johjan Mussa Robles led all players with eight defensive digs.

Regis College (11-11) begins its final regular season stretch of conference contests with a tri-match hosted by Emmanuel College Saturday, March 26. Regis will face the Saints at 10 a.m. and Elms College at 12 p.m.
