Pride Volleyball Sweeps Dean Tuesday Night

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College combined for a .509 hitting percentage on its way to defeating Dean College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-10), Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's collegiate volleyball match at Higgins Court.

Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.) led the Pride with a season-high 13 kills, plus he hit .524 in the match, collected four service aces, and picked up a team-high six digs. Matt Ferrara (Sandown, N.H.) hit .615 in the contest as he earned nine kills and three service aces, while Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) dished out 17 assists and notched two service aces. Brendan Lam (Rockville, Md.) went 4-for-5 on attack attempts and accumulated 10 assists in two sets.

The Pride took the lead early in the first set on a kill by Robert Burch (Coxsackie, N.Y.), and then they put together a 9-1 scoring run, led by Ferrara with two kills and two service aces, to extend their advantage to 18-7. Dean closed to within eight at 20-12 on a kill by Tyler Martins and a service ace from Traijan Powell, but Regis finished the set with four unanswered points, capped by two service aces from Perez.

Dean took an early 4-1 lead in the second set before Regis put together a 6-2 scoring run to pull ahead, 7-6. The set remained close before the Pride broke a 14-14 tie with an 11-2 scoring stretch to finish the set, led by three kills from Perez and the clinching service ace from Marcello Cappuccio (Scotch Plains, N.J.).

Brendan Carroll (Natick, Mass.) earned kills on the first three points of the third set to help the Pride race out to a 7-1 lead. Consecutive service aces by Bucasas extended the Regis lead to 10-2, and the home team would continue to pull away, closing out the set and the match on kills by Lam and Ferrara.

The Pride hit over .400 in each of the first two sets before posting an .833 hitting percentage in the third set with 10 kills on 12 attack attempts without an error. Regis also finished with 13 service aces as a team, its third consecutive match with 12 or more aces.

Regis College (9-10, 4-4 GNAC) heads to Boston for a key conference tri-match Saturday, March 19, facing Emerson at 10 a.m. and Colby-Sawyer at 12 p.m., two teams the Pride defeated earlier this season. Dean College (1-12, 0-5 GNAC) also makes the trip to Boston to take on Emmanuel Thursday, March 17, starting at 7 p.m.
