Josh Nolen Named GNAC Defensive Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading Regis College at the net defensively during road matches at Nichols and Kean last week, junior Josh Nolen (Falls Church, Va.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday evening, Feb. 28, by the league office.

In Wednesday's 3-2 victory at Nichols, Nolen collected a career-high eight total blocks, including five in the fourth and fifth sets as the Pride rallied from a 2-1 match deficit. He also finished with a season-high 12 kills and tied his career high with three digs against the Bison.

Friday at Kean, he earned three solo blocks and one block assist to go along with five kills. Nolen now leads the team in total blocks with 41 and is fifth in the GNAC in blocks per set at 0.87.

Nolen is the third different Pride men's volleyball student-athlete to receive GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, joining Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) on Jan. 31 and Marcello Cappuccio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) on Feb. 21. In addition, Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.) received GNAC Rookie of the Week recognition on Feb. 7.

Regis College (6-8) next plays Wednesday, March 9, against Nichols College at Higgins Court starting at 7 p.m., followed by a home match against SUNY Potsdam Friday, March 11, also beginning at 7 p.m.
