NEWBURY SWEEPS REGIS, 3-0

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Backed by Jake Powell (Salinas, Calif.) and Tyler Sayne (Tucson, Ariz.), who combined for 27 kills, Newbury College defeated Regis College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's volleyball action, 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 25-13) on Wednesday evening. Newbury improves to 8-12 overall, 5-6 NECC, while Regis falls to 2-12 overall, 2-8 NECC.

Regis was led by freshman Joe Coye (Plaistow, N.H.), who finished with a team high six kills, while teammate Angel Aquilar (Silver Springs, Md.) dished out a team high 13 assists.

Newbury controlled the first set from start to finish after Powell was nearly perfect, knocking down four kills on five attempts for a hitting percentage of .800. Sayne also produced six kills on nine attempts, hitting .444 as the Nighthawks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, ultimately taking set one, 25-9.

In second set, Coye led Regis by hitting .625 with five kills on eight attempts. Despite Coye's efforts, the Nighthawks proved to be too much and finished the set, 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead.

The Nighthawks finished the 3-0 sweep in the third set, defeating Regis, 25-13 behind Powell's six kills on ten attempts. Cody Braden (Fair Grove, Mo) dished out a match high 13 assists in the set, while teammate Sayne completed his strong night with four kills on seven attempts.

The Pride will be back in action tomorrow evening as they travel to Endicott for a 7:00 p.m. NECC match.
