PRIDE TAME LYNX ON SENIOR NIGHT

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College defeated Lesley University, 3-0, on Wednesday night in New England Collegiate Conference men's volleyball action in Weston, Mass. The Pride (2-10, 2-6 NECC) used set scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-14 en route to their second win of the season. Lesley falls to 0-14 overall and 0-8 in league games.

In a pre-game ceremony, the Pride honored senior captain Chris Tran (Quincy, Mass.) for his contributions to Regis College and its athletic program. Tran finished the night with eight digs.

The Pride jumped out to an early 4-1 lead following a pair of Lesley errors and extended its lead to 14-6 on back-to-back kills from Dave Amicangioli (Belmont, Mass.) and Joe Coye (Plaistow, N.H.). A Coye service ace followed by a block from Claude Jean (Rindge, N.H.) made it a 20-8 game before Lesley rattled off a 10-1 run to close the gap to 21-18. After a Lynx service error, Jean and Evan Stone (Stockton, Calif.) each registered kills to put the Pride on top 24-18, and a Lesley error ended game one, 25-19.

Lesley took advantage of Pride errors at the start of game two and grabbed an 8-2 lead following four-straight attack errors by Regis. The Lynx soon returned the favor as four-straight misfires by Lesley made it an 8-6 game before a Dan Berdichevsky (Wayland, Mass.) service ace put Regis within one point at 8-7 and forced a Lesley timeout. Back-to-back kills by Stone and Jean gave the Pride a 10-8 lead, but Lesley's Hector Berreondo (Brighton, Mass.) posted two-straight service aces to put Lesley back on top, 14-13.

The teams traded points and leads over the next few possessions before a quick 5-0 spurt by the Pride capped off by a Coye kills put Regis on top 21-16. A pair of Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) service aces cut the deficit to 21-19, but too many errors down the stretch doomed Lesley as they dropped game two, 25-21.

The Lynx took another early lead in the final set, taking a 3-0 lead on two Pride errors and a Berreondo kill. The Pride battled back to take a 7-4 lead, before stretching their lead to 17-10 on kills from Amicangioli and Coye. The Pride never looked back as they held on for a 25-14 win.
