LASERS BLANK PRIDE, 3-0

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Lasell College, 3-0 on Thursday evening at Higgins Court. The Lasers won set scores of 25-14, 25-19, and 25-20 en route to the victory, and improve to 3-3 on the season. The Pride fall to 1-5 overall (1-2 NECC) with the loss.

In the opening set, both teams traded points back and forth early, and a kill by freshman Joe Coye (Plaistow, N.H.) knotted the game at 5-5. The Lasers would take advantage of costly errors by the Pride, eventually going on a 13-2 run to put themselves ahead 23-10 following a kill by Ryan Jackson (Massillon, Ohio). Regis did not give in easily, scoring four more points to attempt the comeback. Unfortunately it proved to be too little, too late, and Lasell held on for the 25-14 win.

In the second set, the Lasers erupted for an early 5-0 lead and looked like they might run away with the set. An attack error by the visitors put Regis on the scoreboard, and the Pride began to chip away at the lead. Back-to-back service aces by Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.) put Regis ahead for the first time in the set, 15-14. But behind a .500 swinging percentage and four kills down the stretch, with two coming from Anthony Allen (Blackstone, Mass.), Lasell held on for the 25-19 set victory.

Much like the first set, the third and final set of the night began with both sides trading points early. The Lasers started to break away, taking a 16-10 lead following a Pride service error. Led by two kills by Coye and a pair of errors by the visitors, Regis went on a 4-0 run and was right back in it, which prompted a Lesley timeout. After regrouping, the Lasers went on to outscore the Crimson & Gold, 9-6 and take the set, 25-20.

Coye led the way for the Pride, recording nine kills and one solo block after swinging .444 on the night. Caliendo finished with two service aces and five digs. Chris Tran (Quincy, Mass.) and Claude Jean (Rindge, N.H.) combined for seven kills and four digs in the losing effort.

Jackson finished with a match-high 10 kills for the Lasers, and added 14 assists, two service aces, four digs, and a block after hitting .562 on the night. Julius Rosario (Stoughton, Mass.) pitched in with six kills, one service ace, two digs, and one block of his own for Lasell. Matt Dugan (New Lenox, Ill.) finished with a match-high 17 assists in the victory.

The Pride will be back in action next when they host Daniel Webster on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. Lasell will travel to Newbury this weekend to take on Elms and the Nighthawks on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
