COYE, CALIENDO SPIKE LESLEY, 3-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Regis College freshman Joe Coye (Plaistow, N.H.) hit .458 and finished with a match-high 14 kills leading the Pride to their first victory of the season, 3-0, over Lesley. Regis improves to 1-4 on the young season and 1-2 in New England Collegiate Conference action while Lesley falls to 0-9 and 0-3 in NECC play.

Junior Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.) had seven digs, three assists, four aces, and nine kills while hitting .444 for the Pride, while sophomore Dave Amicangioli (Belmont, Mass.) dished out a match-high 23 assists.

For the Lynx, junior Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) had a season-best ten kills while freshman Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) and sophomore Herbin Berreondo (Brighton, Mass.) each had three kills. Freshman Jess Cherry (Lancaster, Pa.) led the team with 13 assists and senior Sean Randall (Fremont, Calif.) finished with a match-high twelve digs.

The first set was a tight one as Lesley freshman Spencer Irwin (Somers, N.Y.) knocked down an ace to get within one, 15-14. Caliendo would answer with a kill from the right side, sparking a 10-1 run to end the set, 25-15, behind the service of junior Angel Aguilar (Silver Springs, Md.). Coye would finish with five kills during the run.

The teams would exchange the first ten points of the second set until, once again, Caliendo would spark another Regis streak. After a Lynx service error, Caliendo's service would lead to eight straight points, giving the Pride a comfortable 13-5 advantage, on their way to a 25-16 second set win.

Once again, in the third set the teams would split the first ten points, playing to a 5-5 tie. Regis was able to take advantage of several Lynx errors and turn them into offense as they went on an 11-4 scoring spurt to build a 16-9 lead. They would not let the Lynx get any closer as they closed out the set 25-15, for the 3-0 sweep.

Regis hit .290 for the match and teamed up for three blocks on their way to the win.

The Pride returns to action tomorrow night when they host Lasell College in a 7:00 p.m. non-league contest.
