PRIDE FALLS TO NIGHTHAWKS 3-0

Weston, Mass.—The Regis College men’s volleyball team was defeated by Newbury College Thursday (Mar. 3) by the score of 3-0. The Pride moves to 0-14 overall on the season and are 0-11 in New England Collegiate Volleyball Association play. The Nighthawks move to 17-9 on the season.

Sparking the match, senior setter Matt Talamantes (Los Angeles, CA/Viewpoint) registered three consecutive serving aces leading to an early 6-0 lead for the Nighthawks.  Newbury did not look back from there as they kept the heat on Regis.

 Following Talamantes’ game high five serving aces, freshman middle blocker Chris Espinola (Derry, N.H/ Pinkerton Academy) and outside hitter Tim Anderson (Plaistow, N.H/Timerland Regional) contributed with three and four kills in the first set, finishing the match with five and seven, respectively.

 Freshman setter Patrick Robidoux (Barrington, R.I/Barrington) finished the match one assist shy of his career high with 12 assists for the Nighthawks leaving Talamantes with the game high of 14 assists. Freshman middle blocker Dan Davison (Howell, N.J/Howell) also provided an outstanding performance recording five kills and a game-high of five serving aces.

 Despite the loss, the Pride received a solid performance from freshman outside hitter Drew Wilder (Brockton, MA), who recorded two kills and two digs. Teammate junior middle hitter Andrew Carroll (Natick,MA) contributed with four assist.

The Pride’s next match is Wednesday (Mar. 16) against MIT and is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
