PRIDE TRACK FINISHES FAST IN  FINAL REGULAR-SEASON MEET

Weston, Mass.—The Regis College track and field team competed in their final regular-season meet of the year Saturday (Feb. 12). The Pride travelled to Tufts University for the third time this winter. The runners, jumpers, and throwers capped off their seasons with the best performances of the year.

The Sprinters finished in a flash from the dash to the 400. Captain Ana Baker (Hartford, Conn./Hartford) posted a new personal best in the 60-meter dash (8.80s) Sophomore Jovita Nassolo (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) posted a new best in a time of 9.75s. On the men’s side, Yash Shah (Waltham, Mass./Waltham)sped to a 8.56s performance.

Baker would return later in the meet to compete in the 200-meter dash, posting her all-time indoor best of 29.24s. In the longer sprints, freshman Katherine Warner (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) ran her second fastest time of the year in the 400-meter dash, while senior middle-distance runner Kate Haslam (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane) dropped down in distance for the final meet; with both athletes breaking 70s. At the Boston University Valentine Invitational freshman Adam Heathman (Oxbow, Vt./Oxbow) chased after a DIII Qualifying mark, missing by .14s, running 23.38s.This was Heathman’s second fastest time of the year and a mark that would have qualified for last year’s indoor meet.

 At Tufts, in the longer distances, freshman Sarah Schow (Middleborough, Mass./ Middleborough) was the highlight, barely missing her personal best by running 13:02min in the 3k. In the field events, freshman Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H./Nashua) adjusted to using different poles as she fine-tuned for the upcoming Division III New England Indoor Championships. The men’s shot put witnessed the ever-improving senior Nathan Fagundo  (Newton, Mass./Boston Trinity Academy) who added even more distance on his previous best of 8.45m to 9.48meters (31’ 1’ ¼”).

In the final event of the meet, the women’s 4x200 meter relay of Baker, Deborah Cesar (Milton, Mass./Fontbonne Academy), Warner, and Haslam also qualified for the Division III New England Track & Field Championship, the squad will be joining Rapsis at MIT this Saturday (Feb. 19)starting at 11:00 a.m.
