Three Pride Men’s Tennis Players Recognized by ITA for Academics

TEMPE, Ariz. – Three members of the Regis College men's tennis program have received ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for their academic performance in 2021-22, as announced by the national organization Wednesday, July 13.

For the 2021-22 academic year, 940 Division III men's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for having a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) continues to add to his awards collection with this honor. The 2021-22 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Year, pursuing his master's degree in counseling, completed a perfect 15-0 season in singles, the most victories ever by a Pride player without a loss, plus he posted a 14-2 doubles mark.

Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) completed his bachelor's degree in global business management in the fall and competed in both matches during the fall season at number four singles and number two doubles. During his collegiate career, he won six singles matches and 19 doubles sets and was selected to the GNAC Men's Tennis All-Sportsmanship Team after the 2018-19 campaign.

Brevin Frankel (Millbury, Mass.) joined the tennis team in the spring after playing soccer in the fall. He picked up his first career singles victory with a straight-set win March 22 against Thomas College. A public health major, Frankel was also part of four doubles victories during the season, including conference wins over Albertus Magnus March 19 and Norwich April 12.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is the governing body of college tennis, overseeing men's and women's varsity tennis at all levels – NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, and Junior/Community College. As stated within the ITA's announcement of the academic honorees, "Academia is an integral aspect of the college tennis experience and adds to the unique student-athlete experience found on college campuses across the nation."

Regis College sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports, including men's tennis, within NCAA Division III as part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
