Pride Men’s Tennis Unable to Rally Past Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Despite victories in both singles and doubles by the top two players in the Regis College lineup, the Pride could not secure the deciding point, as Colby-Sawyer College pulled out a 5-4 victory Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's tennis match at Kelsey Courts.

Regis won two of the three doubles sets to take the overall lead heading into singles. Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) picked up an 8-3 victory at number one doubles, while Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) earned an 8-4 win at number two doubles.

Colby-Sawyer would win four consecutive singles matches in straight sets to clinch the team victory. At number two singles, Torres won the first set, but lost the second set before rebounding to take the third set and the match (6-1, 0-6, 6-4) for his 10th consecutive singles victory.

At number one singles, Bienvenu battled Colby-Sawyer's Julius Lowman throughout the first set, eventually prevailing on a tiebreaker. Bienvenu would win the second set to complete the victory (7-6, 6-4) and remain undefeated in singles play this season at 15-0, moving into a tie for fourth place for most victories in a single season.

Regis College will await the conclusion of the regular season Sunday, April 24, before finding out its status for the GNAC Tournament, set to begin next Saturday, April 30.
