NEWPORT, R.I. – For the second time in three days, a dual match involving Regis College came down to one singles contest, and again the Pride emerged victorious, defeating Salve Regina University, 5-4, Thursday in a non-conference men's collegiate tennis match at the Leroy Avenue Courts.

The Pride took two doubles sets for a 2-1 lead, starting with an 8-1 victory for Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.). Brevin Frankel (Millbury, Mass.) and Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) earned their second win in as many matches with an 8-3 victory.

Bienvenu remained undefeated in singles play this season with a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-0), while Torres extended his singles winning streak to nine matches (6-1, 6-3). Salve Regina rallied back to tie the overall match at 4-4, leaving the contest at number three singles between Tam and Riley Kehoe.

Tam cruised through the first set, 6-1, but Kehoe battled back, forcing a second-set tiebreaker and winning that, 7-4, to bring the match to a super-tiebreaker. Tam would finally win the super-tiebreaker, 10-8, to clinch the victory for the Pride.

Regis College (7-7, 1-2 GNAC) closes out the regular season Saturday, April 23, at Colby-Sawyer starting at 1 p.m.
