Torres, Lavini-Ayalla Sweep GNAC Weekly Tennis Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – Responsible for three of Regis College's points during the Pride's 7-2 victory over Curry College last Tuesday, senior Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and first-year player Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.) have swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly men's tennis awards, announced by the league office Monday, April 11.

Torres collected GNAC Player of the Week honors after winning in both singles and doubles against the Colonels. First, he teamed with Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) at number one doubles for an 8-2 victory. Torres then picked up his seventh straight singles victory with a straight-set win, not losing a game in the process (6-0, 6-0). Torres, now 9-1 in singles so far this spring, earns his second career GNAC weekly award, as he was named GNAC Rookie of the Week April 22, 2019.

Lavini-Ayalla becomes the first Regis player since Torres to receive the GNAC Rookie of the Week award in men's tennis after picking up his second singles victory of the season. He won a first set tiebreaker before completing the straight-set victory (7-6, 6-3). Lavini-Ayalla, also a member of the Regis soccer team, previously won in both singles and doubles against Thomas College March 22.

Regis College (5-7, 0-2 GNAC) is scheduled to host Norwich University Tuesday, April 12, starting at 2 p.m., with the Senior Day presentation slated to take place before the match.
