Men’s Tennis Earns Non-Conference Road Victory

MILTON, Mass. – Regis College got back on the winning track, defeating Curry College, 7-2, Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate tennis match at the Trent Scott Tennis Courts.

The Pride took a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to 8-2 victories by both Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) at number one doubles and Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) at number two doubles.

Torres made quick work of his opponent in singles play, winning in straight sets without losing a game (6-0, 6-0), while Bienvenu earned his 12th singles victory without a defeat this season with a straight-set decision (6-0, 6-2). A half-hour later, Tam clinched the overall match for the Pride with a straight set victory at number four singles (6-3, 6-3).

Shortly after Tam's win, Weiner clinched his singles match in the number three position with a straight set win (6-1, 6-2). Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.) earned his second singles victory of the season, taking the lead by prevailing in a first-set tiebreaker and then completing the straight set win (7-6, 6-3).

Regis College (5-7, 0-2 GNAC) returns to conference play for its final home match of the regular season, welcoming Norwich University for a GNAC contest Saturday, April 9, starting at 2 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Pride.
