Men’s Tennis Loses Conference Matchup

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College battled throughout the afternoon, but Eastern Nazarene College prevailed, 6-3, Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

Eastern Nazarene took the first point of the match with a win at number three doubles, but the team of Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) was able to earn an 8-3 win at number two doubles to pull the Pride into a 1-1 tie. However, the Lions would regain the overall advantage with a victory at number one doubles, 8-4.

The Lions clinched the team contest by winning the first four singles matches that were completed, with Diego Torres providing the clinching point at number four singles. Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) earned a straight-set victory in the number two position (6-3, 6-2) for his sixth straight singles win.

At number one singles, Bienvenu lost a first-set tiebreaker, but then rallied to take the second set, 6-2, as well as the super-tiebreaker, 10-5, to close out the match. He remains undefeated in singles play at 11-0 as well as improves to 10-1 in doubles competition with his earlier victory.

Regis College (4-7, 0-2 GNAC) heads to Milton, Mass., to face Curry College Tuesday, April 5, starting at 3 p.m., before resuming conference play at home against Norwich next Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. Eastern Nazarene (7-5, 1-0 GNAC) plays at Salem State Wednesday, April 6, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
