Men’s Tennis Sweeps Thomas College, 9-0

WESTON, Mass. – In its first home contest of the season, Regis College swept past Thomas College, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

The Pride won the three doubles sets in convincing fashion, starting with an 8-0 victory at number two doubles for Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.). Brevin Frankel (Millbury, Mass.) and Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.) earned their first victory as a doubles team in the number three position, 8-1, and Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) closed out the doubles with an 8-2 victory in the number one position.

All six singles matches were claimed by the Pride in straight sets, with Bienvenu, Torres, and Weiner winning without losing a game (6-0, 6-0) and Tam dropping just two games in the first set on his way to victory (6-2, 6-0). Frankel and Lavini-Ayalla each earned their first collegiate singles victory, with Frankel emerging victorious in the number five position (6-0, 6-4) and Lavini-Ayalla completing the sweep at number six singles (6-3, 6-4).

Regis College (4-5) hosts Bridgewater State Saturday, March 26, starting at 12 p.m. Thomas College (0-1) enters its conference play with a trip to Vermont to face NVU Johnson Saturday, March 26, and NVU Lyndon Sunday, March 27, with both matches beginning at 1 p.m.
