Bienvenu Named GNAC Men’s Tennis Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Thanks to a perfect record in both singles and doubles during Regis College's Spring Break trip to Florida, graduate student Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced Monday evening, Mar. 14, by the league office.

From Feb. 27 to Mar. 5, Bienvenu won all five singles matches in the number one position and all five doubles sets he competed in. On Feb. 27, after losing the first set against Piedmont's number one player, he won the second set and super-tiebreaker to take that match, followed by four straight-set victories where he lost a total of just seven games.

Bienvenu teamed with Sebastian Torres at number one doubles against Piedmont and picked up an 8-2 victory. He then joined with Lenny Tam in the number two doubles spot, with the tandem picking up victories over duos from Wartburg, Adrian, and Concordia-Moorhead, helping the Pride collect team wins all three times. Bienvenu and Tam wrapped up the week with an 8-5 victory over Calvin at number one doubles.

So far in 2021-22, Bienvenu is 7-0 in singles and 6-1 in doubles, with the only loss coming in a tiebreaker against Clark. He becomes the first Regis men's tennis player to receive a GNAC weekly award since Torres was named GNAC Rookie of the Week Apr. 22, 2019.

Regis College (3-4) opens conference play this weekend with a trip to New Haven, Conn., to face Albertus Magnus College Saturday, Mar. 19, starting at 1 p.m.
