Tennis Teams Conclude Florida Series of Matches Saturday

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Regis College faced a strong Calvin University tennis program Saturday as the Pride concluded their Spring Break series of matches, with the Regis men losing to the Knights, 6-3, and the Pride women dropping a 9-0 decision to Calvin.

In the men's match, the Pride picked up a point at number one doubles as Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) earned an 8-5 victory. At number two doubles, Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Brevin Frankel (Millbury, Mass.) battled before losing, 8-4.

Bienvenu improved his singles record to 7-0 with a straight-set victory (6-1, 6-1) over Calvin's Harrison Sindelar in the number one position. Torres completed a 4-1 singles mark on the trip with a straight-set win (6-4, 6-2) over Adam Zentner in the number two position.

The Calvin women remained undefeated at 7-0 by taking early control of the match, losing only one game in sweeping the doubles sets. The Knights continued their exemplary play in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets and dropping only nine games combined.

The Regis men's tennis team will have two weeks to prepare for the bulk of its spring championships schedule, starting with a conference match at Albertus Magnus Saturday, March 19, starting at 1 p.m. The Pride women are scheduled to play three more spring matches, including a home contest against Nichols Tuesday, March 29, beginning at 4 p.m.
