Regis Men’s Tennis Wins Second Straight 5-4 Decision

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second straight day, the Regis College men's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 victory by winning the final point of the match, this time defeating Adrian College in a non-conference contest Wednesday evening at the USTA National Campus.

Once again, the team match came down to the number three singles contest, with graduate student Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) earning another straight-set victory (6-3, 6-2) to give the Pride their second win in as many days.

Weiner first teamed with Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) for an 8-2 doubles win in the number one position, tying the match at 1-1 after Adrian took the first point at number three doubles. The Pride would take the lead after Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) earned an 8-4 victory at number two doubles.

At number four singles, Tam would receive Regis' third point of the day when his opponent was forced to retire. After Adrian collected victories in the fifth and sixth positions to tie the match at 3-3, Bienvenu finished his match at number one singles in straight sets (6-3, 6-0) to allow the Pride to retake the lead before the Bulldogs again pulled even at 4-4 with a victory at number two singles.

Regis College (2-3) returns to the USTA National Campus first thing in the morning Thursday, March 3, as the Pride are scheduled to face Concordia-Moorhead College starting at 8 a.m.
